The Workshop   -   XW

Frequency:   (Various)

Last Reported:
        4330 kHz
        5430 kHz

This strange station has apparently not been heard very often, and  has only rarely been reported.

The signal sounds like a transmitter has been powered up with the microphone left open, in a mechanical workshop.

Banging, crashing, footsteps, distant voices and ringing telephones can be heard in the distance.

The signal was reported on 1 December 1997 at 1900 UTC, on a frequency of 4330 kHz.  Strong voices, believed to be Russian, were heard on the signal, along with the accompanying noises!

This station was also reported on 5430 kHz on 11 November 2000, at 1744 UTC in South London and at good strength (S7). The transmission lasted about 20 minutes.
